Texas paloverde

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Is anyone familiar with Texas paloverde? I have three seedlings, and I noticed right away that they seem to show two distinct phenotypes. One is larger, and two are smaller. The smaller ones have oval-shaped leaves, with the leaflets packed closely together, while the larger one has long, straight leaves, with the leaflets spaced about 1mm apart from each other. The cotyledons are different, too, with the larger seedling having flat, rounded-rectangular cotyledons, while the ones on the smaller seedlings are curved like saddles. Even as seeds, there was a noticeable size difference corresponding to the larger and smaller seedlings. They are all about the same age, as they sprouted about the same time, and I know they are the same species because they all came from pods from the same tree. Has anyone noticed anything similar in grownup trees? Do you think maybe it's a developmental thing, or perhaps paloverdes have separate male and female trees?

The image is of the larger seedling.

There is some info on Parkinsonia aculeata
http://wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=PAAC3

But not much on Parkinsonia texana

I haven't grown either one so I have no idea.

I have 3-4' "Retama"s but have never seen them that small!!!
But let me ask you this. If yours is a Parkinsonia, what would you call this? Don't really think these could be little Retamas b/c of opposite sides of property but ck out these differences in leaves on what must be volunteers.

This is the 2nd one. I think these are the same but I can't figure it out. One appeared in a flat of Lilys that came fr Austin & the other appeared in a flat of Crinums fr Mt Belvieu. Still scratching my head!!! lol

Huh, I have no idea. I know they're not anything in the Parkinsonia genus, since the leaves are just regular looking leaves. From the looks of the stem, it seems like some kinda tree or shrub (though I could be wrong). You didn't plant these, right? From the size of the cotyledons, it seems like the seeds they sprouted from would have been pretty big, so it's probably not a weed. I guess you could let em grow bigger and see what you get. Bonus plants! lol
