most rain in 24 hrs since Floyd

Kure Beach, NC(Zone 9a)

Wilmington airport got 9" in 24 hrs, the most since Floyd hit in '99 and that was a record.
We got well over 6" in Kure Beach.
My 300 gal rain barrel went from dry to more than overflowing in the time.
Looks like we'll get more tomorrow also.
Sweet!

We only got 4" but it was the first precip we had seen in over a month. Whatever (if any) comes tomorrow would be welcome.

Conway, SC

You folks on the coast will get a whole lot more rain Wednesday night and Thursday. Don't float away.

Kure Beach, NC(Zone 9a)

The side and back yards are underwater about 6". Guess I won't be working in the backyard today! I am going to get in some ripe seedpods from my Hibiscus militaris before the winds start.

I'm hoping that everyone and plants stay safe.

B-Barbie - my son who goes to Coastal is finding out just how bad clay soil is at drainage lol he called to say his yard is flooding and just how is he to plant his fall garden? I tried so hard not to laugh at how mad he was at the rain...he will learn ...lol.....he bought a piece of a veggie co-op with a few friends and they've been loving all the fresh veggies so they decided to grow their own...I think this is where he finds out it's not as easy as it looks when you first start out :)

rednyr: Is your son in the Quail Creek area ? Coastal is only 5miles from Conway and it has rained alot . He can go to the county land fill (Horry County Solid Waste Auth.) and get a pick-up load of compost for around $15. It is great and he is right-- that area is pure clay.

BSD thanks for that info! He will be pleased to know that and it will be easier on my wallet - I mean his wallet LOL He moved from surfside to MB this semester....

New Bern, NC(Zone 8a)

We kept dumping our rain gage and ended up with a total of 21 3/4 inches.

Oh wow! That's incredible! I feel so sorry for you. What must your gardening bed(s) look like?

Kure Beach, NC(Zone 9a)

We beat the total 3 day rainfall record set by Floyd. SUCH over achievers! ;)

Actually, our ground drains well and we had a little standing water but not as bad as other areas. A neighbor several blocks away was standing in his Carolina Room watching his back yard flood when two goldfish swam by! Near Pollocksville there is a campground with only the top bar of a swing set visible. We were lucky.
