Wow, you're right Pelle, they are amazing little birds. They're fairly small and to be able to fly 5000 miles without stopping is just mind boggling. It's hard enough to think they breed in the Artic. Thanks for sharing this, it was interesting.

Quite a coincidence, just been reading two other similar papers, one on waders, with the suggestion that Sharp-tailed Sandpiper can probably do 11,000 km non-stop, same as Bar-tailed Godwits:

But for total distance, it's Arctic Tern, at 80,000 km per year - more than 3 times what that Knot did!
