Every summer for the past few years, I see this hawk in my backyard. I have no idea what kind it is. Any opinions?
CLOSED: What kind of hawk is this?
Maybe a Peregrine Falcon?
edited to say: That was a wild guess, a really wild guess and I don't think the bird in question is a Peregrine Falcon at all.
Scroll down this page and take a look at some of the Raptor's found in your area: http://nathistoc.bio.uci.edu/birds/falconiformes/Buteo%20swainsoni/Buteo%20swainsoni.htm ... Maybe the Swainson's Hawk?

craig_o: Go with the ID of a Cooper's Hawk ... I've had these knowledgeable folks ID a few birds for me, including a Cooper's Hawk.
