feather reed grass - can i divide it

I have noted some very nice specimens of Calamagrostis "Karl Foerster"for sale at Home Depot. they are very large and because of the spot i want them i simply can not dig holes big enough to accommodate. Can these be successfully divided ? thanks

never tried a saw it makes a lot of sense for a cleaner cut and to make more "even" sized divisions.

I've used a pruning saw to do it. A transplant knife on smaller ones.
