This year I planted Potato Vine in my front bed. It is all day during direct sun light. Tired of the usual plants to dye, this year I made the bold move to plant Potato Vine and I am so excited. No problem at all. Enjoy
POTATO VINE wonderful in the heat of our TX summer
Fantastic! And did you know it is very easy to root?
You don't have deer do you?
Looks great! (And think how jealous your neighbors are going to be when you did up your front bed and eat it...)
Sure it just an ornamental variety of sweet potatoe ( Ipomoea batatas).
In Dallas, TX this year we had a really brutal August, almost every day on the 100s and no rain !!
Potato Vine was a hero !
Same her in Conroe. I have a bigger bed along the side of one of the driveways and I am going to plant this again next year. Only thing I have had to do to it is cut it back to keep it off the driveway.
Is the potato vine an annual then?
Ah, another potato vine fan! I love this plant as it is such an easy keeper. I have the bronze colored one too. Does just as well for me--maybe it needs just a bit more water. I can't really tell if that is just me or not.
It's a perennial in warmer areas. In zone 9a mine died in winter but came back two years ago, but last years winter wiped out all four varities I had. It's best to dig tubers before a hard freeze are take cuttings and keep them alive inside. Very easy to propagate, it's the only plant I have had 100% success with. I will actually form a root in 24 hours.

I, too, love this stuff! It really fills in any difficult spot you have! Mine all died back with that hard winter, but I'll be pulling some and starting babies to plant out next spring!
