CLOSED: What dove?

It's tail makes me think White-winged, but it seems bigger than the White-winged doves. Bill looks too long for a Rock Dove though. Barbary?

It looks like a pale-colored Eurasian Collared Dove.

Agree, Eurasion Collard-Dove

I'd go for escaped Barbary Dove - it is too pale, dainty and slender-billed for a Collared Dove

So a Barbary Dove is an African Collared Dove.....they do look very similar. This had to be someones pet bird then.

Sorry Elphaba...I don't have a Barbary Dove in my field guide...I figured the mark on the neck was enough for E-c D.

You may all be right. I don't have Barbary doves in my guide either, but on wikipedia, it says that some sources think the Barbary is a domesticated form of the Eurasian Collared Dove and some think it's a domesticated African Collared Dove.

Thanks for everyone's input!

The wikipedia article here seems to be a victim of wikipedia's so-called neutral point of view policy, giving equal weight to all points of view. The result is actually a rather unreal representation; the overwhelming majority of sources (including all the reliable ones!) give African Collared Dove as the ancestor of Barbary Dove. The evidence for European Collared Dove parentage is very dubious.

Well even all inclusive wiki forgot its most common name -- Big White Dove.

Thanks everyone.
