HI, i was wondering if this can be successfully overwintered in my zone 6/7?
I saw a pic of this and really love it.
Jubaea chilensis - anyone grow this?
Jubaea chiliensis (Chilean wine palm) was a popular landscape palm in California during the last quarter of the nineteenth century through the early twentieth century. Because of its massive size (50-60 ft +) with a trunk up to 3-ft wide is is usually found on old estates or ranches. According to the Sunset guide it is hardy to 20 degrees F. Seems like Zones 6-7 would be too cold to overwinter this palm out of doors. Hope this helps. The photograph was taken at Rancho La Patera, in Goleta, California. The wine palm was planted sometime between 1872 and the mid 1880s.
