The rain dance worked!

Sumter, SC

Starting around 6 pm, a small, but intense, thunderstorm dumped 1.5" of rain in NE Sumter County, including my yard. I'm happier than a 4yr old at Chuckie Cheeses! Hope everyone else gets similar downpours soon.

My variegated tapioca blew over in the storm, and the outer layer at it's base is very damaged. Hope it can recover.

we didn't get any rain at that time - we saw the clouds gathering and heard distant thunder but not enough to make us get out of the hot tub lol....but we did get rain very late last night as I recall it waking me up enough to think - cool I don't have to water in the morning...zzzzzz....lol

I am doing even more than that, I'm washing a wool rug out on the deck today. Surely when I am trying to dry a rug it will pour. Don't you think?

Nice way to tempt the fates Ardesia! lol

My mojo is not working! This is the second wool rug I have washed and dried outdoors this week. It has been so hot and so long since we have seen any rain that the rugs dried completely in two days. So much for tempting fate. LOL

I've been trying to dig plants for a plant sale on Hilton Head next month and the shovel just bounces off the dry soil. The trees are hogging all the irrigation.

Yep .. it's getting pretty crispy around here.

I feel your pain, ardesia. Although my yard received 1.6" of rain in less than an hour, the pic of it gushing through the drainage pipe tells the story. Most of it quickly found it's way into the nearby swamp/stream. My ground remained as hard as concrete, but the mosquito population exploded! Ain't life cruel?

This morning, I just about killed myself digging a hole for a j. magnolia in this area - nothing but dry, crusty soil over 2' deep.
