Gardening needs not be done only in months where temperatures are more favorable but throughout each and every month in the year. Now I know we Texan's usually don't get a blasting for winter or have much of a transition from summer to fall or spring to summer. That is not to say that you cannot continue to grow those delectable table additions and those yummy plate toppers.
So most of your Solanaceous Crops perished after the first mild frost! Mulch them in and turn them into organic solids for your next crops like Kale, Collard Greens, Brussels Sprouts, Spinach, Leeks, Parsnips, Mache, Lettuce.
Garlic is easily planted in Fall for great results the following year.
Gardening is not a single season activity but a year long, life long adventure!
Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer, even indoors!
Or you can dig tem up put them in a pot and overwinter them that way. I guess it helps if your addicted to homegrown produce. Welcome newbie!
Alright!! a vegetable gardener, I grow garlic too.
Josephine.
Newbie here maybe but not to gardening by any since of the word. Capsicum varieties are all perennial and if properly over wintered will live for several years.Unless you live in a place where the winters are really mild and can leave them outdoors.I cannot but I have 4 year old, several 2 and 3 year old chili's that I have kept from freezing and still produce like my 1 year annuums.
Most people I have met are brainwashed into thinking chili's are annuals and I am here to say not so.
Also, I would love to see you dig up one of my tomatoe plants and throw it in a pot to take indoors. I seriously doubt you could even pick up the pot! I grow some of my Chili's in 15 gallon pots and they weigh like 150 lbs. I hate tugging those around and I suspect I'll be moving all my chili's back to Van Zandt County by years end.
Safety is at best growing in a greenhouse where you can artificially control the climate to mimic summer in winter. I have greenhouses and still practice the art of turning in plants for benefiting new crops.
