Sorry, not a Sanderling - note that it has a hind toe (clearly visible on the lifted foot), and Sanderling is unique among waders in not having a hind toe.

The second bird looks like a semipalmated plover to me, they really look like killdeers.

It's true it would be a very difficult bird to call between Western and Semipalmated if it was in Florida; but in California, Westerns outnumber Semipalmateds by something like several thousand to one - so it's fairly safe to say it's Western unless proven otherwise ;-)
