Our pond 4 foot water fall has different plants and very lovely. the roots also act also strain-- i am having senior moment--I can not think of the right word!! LOL!!! the water celery was covered with green and black stripes insects of various sizes.11
Any way DH told me that there were hundreds and sure enough all the nice leaves eaten and tons of crawling insects!! I asked him to pull the plants but refused!! Can you imagine so i had to do it with extra long gloves.
Had anybody ever had the same experience? What did you do?

Ive not had anything like that, but could you use a spray nozzle on your hose and 'blow' them off into the water below where the fish would eat them? Do they fly?
Maybe take the plants out for a while until the bugs are gone and then start them over again?
an ID of the bug is what you need.
I wished I had taken pictures. I do get this similar insects on parsley and celery.They do not fly , they crawl like tomatoes and pepper green bugs. I did gave some to the koi and love them!! LOL!!! Belle
Sounds like the caterpillar for the Swallowtail butterfly to me.
Send some of those bugs to me! My water celery escaped into the nearby stream and has now spread to cover hundreds of square yards along the banks and surrounding boggy areas. I can't believe it's not banned in Indiana, but I've noticed that it isn't for sale at any of the water garden centers any more. I wish something would eat it here!

Some were gigantic that is why mt DH did not want to do the job of cutting the rests of the plants. Yes they are fast growers to say the least. I bought them and will not buy them next year. Belle
