Is it possible to move a writing spider's egg case?

Kure Beach, NC(Zone 9a)

A friend of mine has a writing spider (Argiope aurantia) over the door to her garage. It has an egg case. She wants to know if it's possible to move them away from her house. She understands how beneficial the spider is, but doesn't want to be invaded by babies.
Anybody know?
Thanks,
Barb

I don't see why not since they don't need mama to survive.

I got a problem too with one of those .. There has been one over my hedge all summer and I really need to trim the hedge but don't want to kill the spider .. trying to figure out a way to trap her without causing too much trauma, trim the hedge and put her back. We've become friends over the last few months .. she really loves to be misted when I water the window boxes.

Excellent point, they don't need their momma, do they.
I wonder if, after the case is moved, she'll make another. Hhmmm....

The last of our writing spiders was picked off by a bird this week - the banana spiders have met the same demise....kinda makes me sad as I was used to seeing them every day as I watered...

Are you sure they were taken? Mine has disappeared too, but I'm thinking she made her egg case then died or is guarding it somewhere in the bushes.

Egg case is still attached to the eve of the house....over the last several weeks they've all started to disappear...i'm sure it's possible anything could have happened to them :)

Some spiders die after making their egg case.

I have several of them each year so I looked them up. Writing spiders make 1 - 4 egg cases a year and die shortly afterwards. The eggs wont hatch until spring and the babies will float away on the wind. I've seen 5 egg cases in my front flowerbed. I really need to clean and mulch the area those 2 mommas are in but I'm trying to wait until they die. I'm going to try not to disturb their eggs. The mothers ate lots of huge grasshoppers all summer and I talk to them when I'm working out in the yard, lol just hope my neighbors don't see me or I might get committed. I make sure to keep my eyes on them when I am working close and make sure I tell them I'm not going to bother them and to stay over there where they are. Lord I'm looney! Talking to spiders.

DB - I'm sure you're not the only one who talks to them. i know I do. Thanks for the info on their life cycle, I'll forward that to my friend.

Lol, yeah I talk to them too and even throw a grub into their web now & then.

X - bet you're on their Christmas card list for that!

Well I must confess that throwing leaf roller cats into local spider webs or literally hand feeding the cats to green lynx spiders has gotta be one of the most satisfying garden activity there is where revenge is warranted.

The lady in the picture and I were on a first name basis.
