I did my research and think this is a Killdeer - a first-timer for me.
Am I correct?

Definitely a Killdeer, Hack. The double breast band distinguishes it from other similar shorebird species. And, the Killdeer has a distinct voice. You can't mistake it. When they're nesting and you approach their poorly prepared and often poorly located nest, they usually fake injury in an attempt to lead you away from the nest. Congratulations.
