I am so excited. Lycoris is my favorite bulb.
They have started to bloom this week. Many are still popping out.
I really hope the cold winter we had this year didn't kill them.
My LYCORIS have started to bloom
I love them too, they are sooo pretty.
Josephine.
Oh! I'll have to run out and see if mine have come up yet!
Thanks for identifying for me! I have a bunch of different bulbs that were just thrown in a pot and given to me weeks ago. Supposed to be Louisiana iris and I haven't had a chance to plant them yet but all of a sudden these red bloom popped up. I knew it wasn't the iris and when I got on the Texas forum there it was! They will be going into the ground today.
No life from my lycoris...yet! I'm not giving up hope.
Lycoris is a fav of mine too. I've seen a very few around this general area but mine haven't popped up yet.
There is a grave in our town cemetery that is covered with Lycoris every year. Once the thieves realize how pricey the bulbs are, they'll quit stealing (copper or whatever) from local oil/gas rigs and commence to grave robbin'.
I see mine coming up! They're about 8 inches high. I moved all that I could see foliage on last winter, but apparently I missed some. The former location has several stalks, but where I replanted the others, I see nothing...yet.
I have one bloom...so far...I see a few more popping up.
Still waiting for mine.
I'm still waiting as well.
For mine it takes water and we are way too dry. Waiting on a slow, soaking rain for these blooms.
Fun to see the early blooms, thanks...
Still waiting for mine to show.
Maybe when the cold front comes through...
Sorry to brag ... lots of Lycoris popping out everywhere!

Don't make me drool!
Well, about 4 yrs ago, I planted a bunch, probably 8-10. And of course that was the yr that I must NOT have had enough grubs to feed my moles!!! They ate, I thought, all my Lycoris. They ate crinmums, naked ladies, etc, etc!!! They were so hungry that they even started on my gingers! & that really made me mad!!!
But look what popped up this wkend!!!
It's been so long since I saw a bloom, I was thinking that they might be Naked Ladies. So, thanks for reminding me, that I do have ONE Lycoris left!!!!
:~)
I got some Naked Ladies... I will be happy to trade you in a year or two. I have just put in three colors. a pink a white and a verigated one. put in about 28 bulbs
My Naked Ladies, aka Oxblood lilies, aka Hurricane Lilies have already bloomed. My lycoris I think has bit the dust. :((
Where where?????
In my flower bed! There's also a small baby pink skullcap in the top of the pic, too! LOL
Stephanie, don't give up. My lycoris (I call them spider lilies) are just now in full bloom. Some that I had given up on are just now poking out.
OTOH--the ones given to me as schoolhouse lilies have finished blooming for the first time. They did not look like what I thought were schoolhouse lilies, but were almost identical to my spider lilies. Why they were earlier than the others, I couldn't say.
Schoolhouse lilies bloom right around Labor Day. I have some of those, both red and pink. My lycoris have started to poke their shoots out (see pic above), so I'm a happy camper! LOL
Do you know the latin name of the schoolhouse lilies? I'd love to find some, but I don't know how to search for them without knowing their real name.
The scientific name is Rhodophiala bifida

Thanks, Josephine!
Was out in my GH#3 & found about 7-8 more Lycoris. Didn't even know I had that many. The one in the ground by the house is already gone & 4 are now blooming & 3-4 are just starting to show some green! All came fr same place yrs ago & are blooming in 3 different sessions. Go figure!
Mine too, I planted them at the same time last year and they are all blooming at different times. Lots more are blooming now. Later I will take some pictures.
It is such a surprise to see that red ball in the garden this time of year.
My oxblood lilies (hurricane lilies, schoolhouse lilies) are always a surprise to me. It's so fun to see something bloom for the first time this time of year.
Does anyone know when it's best to dig and transplant the oxblood lilies?
I transplant mine in late fall or winter.
Thanks, Josephine! I noticed one of my reds is blooming again. Hooray!
I have stalks and one will bloom in the next day or so!
