we've recently moved and the spring flowers have said their last goodbyes...since I'm not a flower person (unless a tomato or pepper comes from it!) I'm stumped. I've attached a picture but it is an older one with the spring flowers still alive and blooming. Sorry can't post a newer one as I've yet to find the box my camera usb cord is in. We need flowering plants (I'd like a fall color such as orange, red or yellow) The layout consist of two round pots sitting on the top of a small cleared section (previous owners had them planted in a way to have a dome or waterfall appearance) As I said we have pretty much shade 90% of the day. Any ideas would be great
Need help with a shade tolerant fall flower plz
I can see by what you had there that you probably want heavy bloomers.
In that case Mums would do a good job for you.
If you want to go with natives Autumn Sage would probably work great

Very nice house by the way.

thanks very much...I didn't plant the others the previous owner did but I think it looked very attractive. I would love mums but I was afraid they wouldn't get enough sunlight. I had thought about salvia but not a huge fan so wanted to see what other choices I had.
I think if you buy the mums already in bloom they would do fine.
great, thanks again...I love mum's and think that the splash of orange or yellow would look great in the front once I get my pumpkins, bales etc set up I'll try to figure out a way to arrange them around the planter as well *LOL* landscape design is not one of my talents...
Though they're not the fall colors you requested, pansies will last throughout most the winter here in our area. The bright colors of the mums look good surrounded by them. The contrasting colors will add more eye appeal than the mums alone especially if the mums are the orange and yellow.

You could add allysum or lobelia. The fall colors surround by the white allysum would really pop and the fragrance of the allysum would be wonderful by the entry. Petunias are another choice, but might not get enough sun to be long blooming unless you get at least a little morning sun there.

Oh, man, there are so many things that bloom in the fall. I think my garden is actually prettier in the fall than it is in the spring. Have you thought about something like butterfly ginger? It provides a nice foliage during the summer and really pretty white blossoms right about now. It does best in some sun, but mine's in dappled shade and still blooms.
We can go on another nursery excursion and hit up Buchanan's in Houston. They have great plants and will certainly be able to tell you what they have that will work well there. I got my jessamines there and it is a treat to wander around and look.
well Serg brought home something a few days ago and plopped it out front...looks ok in the pot but the surrounding mound looks blech...
Soon as I get done with this wedding cake I'm going to try and do stuff in the yard..front bed needs weeding badly and I'll find something to plant..
How did the kidlet do with the surgery? Is he feeling up to a bit of cake?
If its the weekend, I'm a pretty good weeding buddy. ;)
He did pretty good. I bet cake would be a lovely treat. He was delighted when he got to eat his first PB&J. The doctor says he's recovering well, just having a rough go of it.
