fertilizing bulbs in fall

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I am not sure what to fertilize and what shouldn't be. I am particularly interested in my grape hyacinths, my cocosmias, lilies, and glads. I know my daffys need it.

Most spring-flowering bulbs should be fertilized in the fall (October-November).

Brewster, MN(Zone 4b)

Will any fert. do or is it important to use the special bulb fert?

I don't know. Holland sells their bulb fertilizer, but if you can find the same ingredients elsewhere for less, why not try it?

They love a little extra bone meal. I was just wondering about some of the later-blooming bulbs like lilies.

Now that I can't help you with. I'm more of a South African bulb person.

ah well, I think the definitive answer was to only fertilize the spring-blooming bulbs in the fall.

Westminster, SC(Zone 7b)

Good Morning Woodspirit1,

I live in Oconee County in the Richland District. I would fertilize all of your bulbs with a well balanced fertilizer, including glads.

Hi neighbor! Thanks. I have to take up glads and crocosmia because it gets a lot colder here than Westminster. Last winter, I was lackadaisical about mulching and lost several things including 2 roses. It had been back in 1993 since we had that kind of cold. I live about 1,000 higher than Asheville, Hendersonville or Brevard so there was a long period of zone 5 weather.
