ID this wild shrub please

(Linny) Salem, SC(Zone 7b)

This grows on our property down near the creek. It bloomed in the Spring and I've been trying ever since to find out what it is.

Thanks,
Linny

The leaves look like our red byuckeye - Aesculus pavia - never saw one this color --??

Possibly Aesculus sylvatica. Porcher's book says "flowers yellow-green to cream tinged with red". He also mentions it is common in the low mountains.

Ardesia, you nailed it. I googled Images and there it is! I want to move a couple of them up to the yard. They are outstanding!

Thanks for your help.

Happy to help. Wish we could grow them here. I picked one up at a native plant sale in TN earlier this year and it croaked within weeks.

Linny, if it has the same root habits of our red A. pavia - good luck with the transplanting--it grows very deep, very fast. I want to transplant some of our wild A. pavia here in Jax, but I think it will be a job. My hope is that it will live with partial roots.

Let us know how it works out.

John
