Best bulb planter?

Morgantown, WV

I ordered 500 bulbs for this fall, and considering how long it took me to plant 90 bulbs with a trowel last year, I am hoping to find a shortcut! I've seen dozens of bulb planters in catalogs and stores. If you have used these products in the past, please share your experiences.

Some examples:

Here is the best BULB PLANTER in the world: DEWIT 43" long

It is not cheap, but worth all the money.
I have two of them. You can plant bulbs so fast without breaking your back.
I have clay soil and with the tools you found on your email the clay will just gets stuck on inside.
I can normally plant at least 200 bulbs in 1 hour.

I put an ad in craigslist and got a student to plant them for five cents a piece. I also gave him a 12 pack as a thank you for coming the weekend I wanted.

Non of those. Get a good heavy duty auger to attach to a power drill with a cord (cordless don't work well for this) unless you have lots of rocks in your beds or areas to be planted. Look at this one listed in lee valley

It is the best I have found. We have happily planted over 20,000 bulbs since 2006 using a similar one, since first having a smaller, crappy, cheap auger that was made out of pot metal with a two piece shaft which broke. I ordered a back up one from Lee Valley last fall which had the improved root cutting tip as pictured and it is even better. Ironically I just finished writing a garden article about augers and dibbles for a newspaper. I consider those two things my essential garden tools except for a shovel, rake and a trowel. Patti

Agree, you can start with a auger attached to a power drill, but if you already have an estabilished bed you will bust the older bulbs in this way.
That is when you want to use the DEWIT bulb planter. Just push down with your feet the planter and it the point will go in between the dirst. Pull the planter to move the soil, so you will do no damage the the other bulbs or roots.
Trust me. I have planted millions of bulbs in my yard.
