I'm pretty sure this is a moth... But what kind... good or bad?

Good or bad? Not sure what you mean by that, but this is an Imperial Moth (Eacles imperialis). A real beauty!

good or bad... does it do a lot of damage to the garden or a certain type of plant or does it do damage to a bad plant and make it a really good moth. *g... It is very pretty. It looks like it was trying to camaflage itself

Some of their host plants are cedars, elms, maples, oaks, pines and walnuts. They're not considered a pest at all, although the larvae get quite large. Any damage done to the trees is no where near enough to harm the tree itself. Adults don't feed.
