Wanted: Hardy Geranium 'Summer Skies'

Dallas, OR

I have been trying to find sources for the hardy geranium 'summer skies'. Have only found them for sale in the UK and they don't ship to USA. Can anyone help me find a source?

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Frasier's Thimble Farms

These guys are a little bit expensive, but they have lots of things only found in England. The minimum order to the U.S. is $75, but they have lots of cool plants and you might get some people to go in an order with you. I think that's what I'm going to do.

Thompson and Morgan seems to have it bareroot with a couple of other plants and it looks like they'll ship to the U.S.

Also, DG shows that Annie's Annuals has it. You might contact them and see if they'll have it available at some point.

but you have me curious and there's no pic.

And of course now I want it, too . . .

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Pretty little thing isn't it?

Did you try contacting the person that might have it available for trade?

Also T and L Nursery, a wholesaler, carries it. Maybe contact them and see what retailer they have sold it to.

Good luck finding it!

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

polly, I don't know what happened to jamie68 (the person who has it listed.) We were in the middle of a trade last year, and she/he disappeared before sending my plants and hasn't posted since or responded.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Well, shoot!

Consider trying contacting T and L Nursery? Most wholesale places will be glad to refer you to a retailer. And if it turns out to be a nursery that is only local, ask them if they would just ship this one time, pretty please, LOL. Sometimes it works.

Thank you everyone for the tips on finding this plant. I will follow up on them. I am just getting so interested in the hardy geraniums. I follow a forum called Grows On You. Many of the gardeners are in the UK. They have a section of photos of hardy geraniums with beautiful double flowers and this one caught my eye. I also found a purple one from Spring Hill Farms to order. It comes in a group of 4 different hardy geraniums so that's good. I'll see how good the plants are. I found a great hardy geranium book at the library called Gardening with hardy geraniums by Brigitte Bendtsen.
Thanks again for the help. Looks like I should have done my homework better.......

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Best of luck!

I just love them too.

Here's a book I have that is really, and I mean really comprehensive on the subject.

Thank you Polly. I have that book from the library. Very good. Your leads on the plant were very helpful.

Katie, I see T and L nursery has it up in your neck of the woods in gallon pots. I will be calling them to see if they will sell me a plant. Annie's Annuals said to put it on their wish list. I have yet to figure out how to work the darn wish list thing....will try again.

just wanted to tell you gee thanks swalt! I never new hardy geraniums existed and of course now, I want them all! hehehe

Dallas, OR

Wow! Cool! Happy hunting....

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks so much, pollyk and swalt. I'll check out these suppliers myself.

Swalt, let me know if you still have trouble figuring out the wish list on AA. I'm using it and it's great (well, not for the wallet ).

Dallas, OR

Thanks, Katie. I tried the wish list thing again and figured it out. Woohoo! Didn't find Summer Skies on the list though. Ordered their catalogue. They do have lots of cool plants. Also ordered a catalogue from Thompson and Morgan.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

One way or another, eh? If I'm successful at obtaining it, I'll be sure to let you know!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I stopped by and checked with T&L today to see if they'd make an exception to selling to a wholesaler. No go. They said that I should go to a local nursery and ask if they can special order it.

She also said that their public list isn't always up to date, so it might be that they don't actually have what I'm looking for in the greenhouse now.

It was fun to wander around while I was waiting for her to get off the phone. Lots of awesome healthy looking plants there . . .

Dallas, OR

Tand L sounds fun. Too bad they wouldn't sell to you. But,thank you, Katie, that does jog my memory. We have Garland nursery down here that will special order. I do sound a bit obsessed don't I? LOL

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

If that's obsessed, then maybe I am, too. :-)

I frequently stop by Garlands if there's time on the way home from visiting my folks in Corvallis. Seems to me that they'd love to order it. Do you ever go to Dancing Oaks nursery in Monmouth? I'd like to go there. Met a gal online who works there . . .

Dallas, OR

I am going to Garland's tomorrow. They have some variegated pachysandra I have been looking for and I will see if they have Summer Skies while I am there. Dancing Oaks is a superb nursery to go to. They have lots of hard to find things. I haven't checked out their hardy geranium supply.

Isn't Corvallis a great town? I used to live down in that area and loved it.

Dallas, OR

You should plan to make a trip to Dancing Oaks. Its very worth it. Its right off 99W just south of Monmouth. You could head up 99 on your way home from Corvallis and turn left onto Airlie road at Suver. That will take you to it. It's out a long dirt road. They have good signs to direct you. Plan to spend lots of time just touring their gardens. Then you can go back out to 99 and head on north through Monmouth and on to Rickreal. That catches Hwy 22 that goes to Salem. Easy to catch freeway from there.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Yes. I lived there 1981 - 1985 and have been tempted to move back at times ever since I left.

Thanks for the directions to Dancing Oaks. I kind of knew where they were, but having the specifics helps.

Let me know what you find at Garlands and whether they can do a special order for you!

Dallas, OR

Ha! Went to Garland's and got the pachysandra. Don't know about you but I NEVER get away from there without spending more than I planned! I got a lovely clematic with bronze foliage, a crepe myrtle, and a very pretty garden bench-black metal rounded to fit around a tree....I'm a sucker for on the spot purchases. Also saw-but thankfully didn't buy-a fringe tree they had espaliered. Lovely bronzy foliage. And a very nice way to grow it. Thankfully didn't buy because it was way too much money for me to justify....

AND after all that wouldn't you know, I forgot to ask them about the geranium. They are having a sale Oct 22-24. So I will check then......

:-) Come on over to the Pacific NW Forum and share your finds with us there. There are more and more people from Oregon all the time.

Thanks, Katie.
