My beautiful Mr. Bear has lost 3 of his canine teeth

Alameda, CA(Zone 9b)

He's almost twelve, and one of his teeth fell out last week. We took him in, and the doctor said he needed to have his teeth cleaned and that more teeth might have to be extracted. He had his procedure this morning, and they just called to say that 2 of the other canines were basically dangling by their roots and they had to take them out. I'm so upset about my beautiful boy; maybe if I had had his teeth cleaned sooner this wouldn't have happened. How will he eat? As anyone else had this happen? I've had other senior cats and none of them ever lost any teeth. (sad...)
