I have a bay laurel plant that has branched nicely over the years. One branch has gotten extremely tall compared to the others, to the point where it will just not fit under my grow lights this winter. I'd like to cut the branch back and try to propagate a new plant from the cutting. I know it is a notoriously slow and unpredictable plant to propagate--does anyone have any hints or tips that might help improve my chances for success?
Bay Laurel propagation from cuttings

Been watching to see if you get an answer on this question, as I have the exact same question. In case I forget (senior moment) where you asked, perhaps you will remember to DM me.
Thanks a bunch,
Sylvia
Sure will, Sylvia. The information I've read on the web said trying cuttings works best in late summer/early fall. I've also ready that cuttings like heat and humidity, but not lots of light. I'm thinking of trying cuttings under a dome on a heat mat. Any information to add to what I've read?

I'm clueless, need help. I have several friends that would rooted cuttings from my bay laurel.

I root my bay cuttings in oasis cubes and usually right after Labor Day...takes about 4 weeks in the fall and 7-8 in the spring, but I store them in the open greenhouse that is fully shaded and mist AM and PM only...just enough to keep the oasis from drying out....I had many failtures until a friend reminded me that the bay is a tropical plant that requires heat and lower moisture...when I replicate those, the cuttings seem to do well and are hardier than with other methods....good luck! and I hope this helps.
Thank you for sharing your experience. By oasis cubes, do you mean the floral oasis that you soak and use for floral arrangements?
I hope I'm able to replicate your successs, txaggiegal!
No...oasis cubes that I use are Cleanstart Oasis Growing Medium...# 5005...one sheet holds 162 molded cubes and fits into a standard nursery tray....easy to water and feed from the bottom. I purchase 20 per season and use them primarily for the trees and woody shrubs that may take 'that extra effort' with another medium. I've used them for years and now find that they are a MUST for the greenhouse budget! With 162 in each 'flat', I usually get 150 cuttings per year....but they do need to be moved up once the roots are showing out of the base since the oasis has no nutritional value, feeding is critical to the new roots...
I really think several soilless mediums would work to get the rootings...I think it is the replication of the natural environment that makes the difference....and the time of year....not too hot...not too cold...not too dry...you get it!
