Slow enough to photograph

Pueblo, CO(Zone 5b)

I have done an informal study: the amount of time it takes the average Hummingbird to visit a feeder is almost exactly the same amount of time it takes me to turn on my camera. So far, this is the only one that stayed long enough to be photographed. I had a Calliope - not common here - that elluded me for 3 days before he left for good.

Congrats on the Calliope! This feeder of yours really brings the little ones close so you can see them-nice!

Neat feeder pollengarden, never seen one like that before. I know what you mean about those super fast visits the hummer's like to do...the male RT I have take's away a lot of shots by chasing everyone off...then we wait again. lol

The feeder is a Perky Pet brand. Advantages: I can locate it so it is protected from sun and wind, and some protection from freezing. Small size (holds a cup, I only use a half cup) is good when I'm getting only 1-2 hummers per day. Disadvantages: clip that holds red base and clear tube together can wear out. Hummingbirds either see into the house or they see their own reflection - either way they aren't too happy about it.
