CLOSED: Which flycatcher

Norman, OK

Shot this guy at a local nature park yesterday. The more I look at him, the more indecisive I am about which flycatcher he is. We also saw a Great-crested FC and an Olive-sided FC.

One of the Empidonax flycatchers, so you're absolutely right to get indecisive. Realistically, only identifiable with certainty by song. That said, the prominence of the white eye ring tends to suggest perhaps Least Flycatcher.

Resin, I think you're right, I'm not going to be able to get any closer than the Empidonax genus. Most commonly seen around here is the Willow, so the most probable. At least I got to see four FC species in a short 1.3 mile walk around a little lake named after University of Oklahoma professor of ornithology George M. Sutton. We also saw what I reported as a White Kite which is rare here. I have been back several times trying to photo, but only saw it that one morning. My wife and I were fortunate to see two Swallow-tail Kites on 12 Aug. The Mississippi Kites are numerous here this time of year.

Thanks for your input.
