Chickens stopped laying

Los Gatos, CA

Hey!

Some of my chickens have stopped laying. Or really slowed down. Just yesterday the Brahmas started again but not my Americana and my two Marans. What could be the problem?

I am in California, not exactly too hot or too cold.......

Lodi, United States

I am in the Central Valley, and mine are still going strong....but we are moving toward the time of year when a lot of breeds will slow down and molt. Have you noticed more feathers than usual lying around?

Chickens molt in response to a reduction in daylight hours.

Oh maybe that's what's happened to Claire. She has laid 1 egg in the last 2 1/2 weeks. I think at just over a year old, she's too young for chicken menopause. And there have been a lot more feathers lying around. Well, here's hoping all the girls soon get back to normal. How long does molting last?

Our 2 chickens have not laid any eggs in over 2 months. They have the same food, water and run of the yard as they always have had. I see feathers in the coop in the A.M. however they do not look feather bare. Does anyone have a short answer as to what the problem might be. These chicks are @ 2 years old. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
Thanks so much,

Sounds like they are molting.

My silkies have not been laying well for the last week.

Ya, I figured molting was the answer. I'ts been going on so long though, whine, whine! Hoping for a quick fix. Us and my neighbor very much miss our fresh eggs. Horror, my dear husband had to buy some eggs!

Finally started getting some eggs again, Happy Dance! We've gotten 5 or 6 in the last 4 days. No samonella worries!

Mine are laying again too! My Americauna has really slowed down. We built a bigger coop, so I separated some of the chickens. She is in with one other hen, and my roo. ( who really likes her) Could that be the problem? Does she need a break from Mr. Romance?

Oh I so missed Mr Haystacks wisdom....

That was great Haystack!

Mine have feathers everywhere... I raked em up and buried the feathers cause it was so unsightly... already looks just the same... I hope this is over with sooon..
