Storing seed potatoes until fall planting

Central Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

I am planning on buying some seed potatoes soon before they are sold out. The problem is that the soil is still way too warm. It won't be cool enough to plant potatoes until October. What is the best way to store them to prevent them from sprouting? Can I put them in the crisper bin in the fridge for the next 6 weeks?

You actually want them to sprout, so just put them on the counter or something where they'll get air circulation and light.

Yeah. What Steph said.

6+ weeks is way too early to sprout them. If I start now, the sprouts will grow too big and use up all the nutrients in the potato. Most likely, it will die before planting or create a poor stand. That's why I want to keep them dormant until about a week or so before planting.

Nah! I've had some sitting on my spice rack since I harvested them in June or July. They've just now started growing eyes.
