close hummingbird visit

I was sitting on our boardwalk and felt something tap my shoulder, my husband started laughing and said the younger hummingbird had landed on my shoulder and was trying to get nectar out of my shirt. I had a tie-dye shirt on which had red,orange,blue, and yellow, so I guess the little fellow thought it was a flower. And earlier I had one about an inch from my nose, he circled around my head and then took off. I think I can say that they have gotten quite used to us.

Sounds like you had a great experience kc! They are really active right now...their getting ready to head south in less than 2 weeks. Look for Sept. 2nd to be the last day.

I live in South Georgia and must have a "gathering place" for hummingbirds. They literally swarm my 3 feeders and when they get empty, they will buzz you when you go outside to let you know. I have a video of them to put on Utube, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet, but I will. It's amazing.

I just got a bunch of Rose of Sharon cuttings from a bush, lots of buds on them. Too many to try to start them all rooting in pots. Just cut a slit in the ground and stuck the cutting in the cut. Will they grow with lots of water, or should I put some Miracle Grow on it or crush a aspirin and put that on it. None of them have roots on them and they are all in the shade. Any advice will be appreciated.
