CLOSED: Would like crinum

Tyler, TX

I saw these in Southern Living magazine and now I just have to have them. I'd prefer crimson but any color will do. I have various day lillies, iris', yellow 4'oclocks and some fuscia to trade.

Thanks,
Shirley

Shirley, where did you see a crimson Crinum lily? I have two colors of pink and a white one, but would LOVE a red!

Close up of flower stock and leaves.

Wish I could grow this but as I'm in zone 6b and no greenhouse, I'll just have to admire pictures.

Red Spider Lily is not Crinum. It's the Lycoris genus though it is in the same family of crinum, Amaryllidaceae.

ok...now that's confusing~ LOL ~

Not really once you understand it .. if you want to know more, here is a link that explains it pretty well.

Other plants in the Amaryllidaceae Family include:

Amaryllis
Clivia Lindl.
Crinum
Hippeastrum Herb.
Lycoris
Narcissus
Zephyranthes (Rain Lily)

so even tho it's a 'Lycoris'...it's still a "Crinum"....right

I saw an article in the July edition of Southern Living. They were just beautiful flowers and very low maintance. They also grow well in the south.

No, the spider lily (lycoris) is not a crinum. It's in the same family as the crinum but it's a different species. It's related to the crinum, just as the amaryllis are.

It's kinda like the malvacea family, which includes malvas, hollyhocks and hibiscus. But a hollyhock is not a hibiscus; they're just related.

I understand .... thanks!!

I did get a good look at this plant at my local Nursery and it is absolutely beautifull
Unfortunately, I was told that It would not come back every year.
What a bummer

that is a bummer. very pretty! my crimium would not flower. probably need to move to full scorching sun?

Crinum can be stubborn to bloom. Especially if they are dug up and transplanted somewhere else .. it took my NOID pink crinum 2 years to bloom after planting it. I planted it 2 years ago this October and it sent out a bloom about 2 weeks ago.

If anyone knows the name of this one .. please let me know.

Most Crinum are hardy in zone 8, IDK why they said it wouldn't come back? There are some even hardy for me here in Indiana! Crinum bulbispernum and variable!
