Leaf-footed Bug (Leptoglossus oppositus)

Are these the same bug, just a little younger? Last year they were on my rose bud
this year the aloe striata. That is the egg case (or whatever you call a bug hatcher thing) that they came out of today.

Unfortuntely, these critters at this age, could be either Leaf-Footed bugs, or Assassin bugs! (assassin bugs are one of the good guys, of course)

I usually go by the rule that if I havent seen an assassin bug in the garden, then they MUST be LFB's. If I HAVE seen an assassin bug, then i'll take a chance, and let them go for a while. About the only way you can tell the difference, is after they mature to adult, the assassin bug will have a prebascus(? sp) on the lower head area. (and, yes, if you pester them they WILL sting you!) Assassin bugs control populations of other true bugs by sucking the liquid from their bodies...
