Sick hen?

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

What would cause a young hen(6 months) to stand with her eyes closed? She will open them if she hears me come up on her or talk to her but then closes them again and just stands there. She doesn't seem to be weak but she is not moving much. I haven't watched her long enough to see how she is eating and drinking... I just noticed this last night as I was closing the pen. She had been out all day with out problems. Any ideas?

How is she acting today.? Sometimes they just don't feel well and get over it quickly. You really can't tell anything right now, except that she doesn't feel well or is tired.

She is much the same today. I have her in the house with vitamin water and food. She seems to be interested in the food when I show it to her and will peck at it once or twice but then closes her eyes again. I have given her water from a dropper and she takes it well enough but she will not go to the water herself.
It has been very hot and humid maybe heat related issues?

I hope she perks up today. It's been so hot hopefully being in a cool house will make her feel better. Is that her in the picture? Very pretty chicken!

Yes, this was her a few weeks ago. She is my escape artiest :) I have finally given up on keeping her pined. She can get in and out whenever she wants so I guess Ill have to deal lol!

Depending on the breed, it seems that chickens can deal with cold, even below zero cold, better than they can handle heat.

Hope your Houdini girl is feeling better tonight! She sure is a cutie. The heat has been awful this summer and so hard on animals and people.

After being inside all day she was more active and was taking more food and water. About 6pm she let me know it was time to go back outside. Ill watch her closer for the next few days but my guess was heat sickness of some kind.
Thank you all for your help!

Great news!!

Yesterday during the heat of the day I saw one of mine doing that. She laid her first egg last night. Maybe she was thinking about the egg.

An escape artist....we have one of those. We even clipped her wings and she still gets out.
Hope your pretty girl is doing better and stays well.
