My subscription is up Oct 13 and I will not be renewing.
I am trying to finish all trades or SASE deals before that time.
Please let me know if I owe anything so I can check my list and get everyone caught up.
It has been fun knowing everyone and I've learned alot.
Thank you
Marti

Thanks Trish. I'm still keeping everyone address even when I leave.
I've already begged her to stay - let's get a troupe together and PRAY - we need lovely people like Marti on these forums!
Are you leaving because of the subscription? If so...that can be taken care of. We don't want you to leave..
that's right Marti...I'll be happy to help if need be! We love you here!
There is still the 'Angel' fund to help those who can't pay.
I got my orignial subscription from some nice person on DG. I can afford the subscription its just that I get in trouble here on DG. I keep begging for seeds and plants and right now don't have anywhere to plant what I already have. You guys make it to easy for me to get more. I need to spend more money and time getting the rest of this 1/2 acre ready to plant. The soil is so bad, red clay that it just packs down everytime I get an area dug up and getting compost is expensive. I got 2 loads of horse compost for $40.00 plus $20. for delivery. When it was delivered I figured out that I could of fit it in my Hyundai Elantra. It would of filled the trunk and only part of the back seat. For the same $60.00 I could of bought bags of topsoil/with compost in it at Lowes and had more that I got delivered. Plus I have all those pinetree/maple tree chips to add to the bags I can buy at Lowe's. What I need is a rear-tine rototiller to help me work the areas that I want to plant.
I went to the local nusery and bought 6 columbines - Black Barlow and Crimson Red and others that are not marked as to cultivar or color, in 4 inch pots, plus 3 yarrow in 4 inch pots, a red one, yellow one and lavender one. And I got 3 Speedwells in gallon pots. The nusery is having their 1/2 off sale for the end of the season.
WOW its raining right now. Means I won't have to water this evening or in the morning. YEAH!!!
Believe me, after being on this site for many years, I can relate to what you are telling us - folks here are almost too kind! LOL We DO UNDERSTAND!
Hi Marti -
You were going to send me Black Cohosh seeds and Verbascum seeds in exchange for the Lady's Mantle I sent last week. I haven't seen them yet.

Thanks,
Kathy
Sorry , Katie. I'll get them out in the mail today. Thank you for reminding me.
Marti
I'm not in a hurry - just wanted to make sure we were on the same track. Thanks!
Katie, your seeds are in the mail. Hope they grow really well for you.
Thank you!
Marti, I'm going to chime in with the folks trying to talk you into staying... after all, there will be all those winter days when you can't get out and dig or garden, and then you'll need this virtual garden! I suppose you could "unwatch" the trading forums... LOL...
I'm hoping to paint alot of gourd this winter and finish my quilt.
Marti, If you are going to be on the property a long time, consider planting something that grows fast, enriches the land, provides bird and people food, and can be chipped for mulch. Of course, you'd need to get a decent chipper, but in the long run, you would save a lot of money.
While probably controversial, I'd plant a nice long row of Autumn Olive. It enriches the land and is a rapid grower, once established. It's a hardwood and would be a good thing to chip if you cut the branches before they got too thick. It is a large bush, small tree. If you are anywhere near Graceon State park and dam, there is a massive planting along one end of the dam (the docks side) and some example plantings in the nature park there. Autumn Olive is very decorative, silvery foliage and covered with small, red, very healthy fruits in the fall. Leaves are also used for tea and young shoots are eaten in various ways. It is a strong nitro-fier as well. I enjoy weekly walks in the woods here to harvest the wild fruit, which is great nibble food. The hillside at the dam turns red during the fall with the abundance of the fruit. I've never been there in the spring to see it covered in flowers or take in the perfume, but those are wonderful as well.
I have 5 BIG Maple trees on this half acre of mine and have more shade than I need. I'm buying fruit trees in the spring. I want peach and apple trees.
I got my seeds, Marti. Thank you!
Your welcome! Have fun growing them.
Marti, I'm not familiar with your area, but check with local tree trimmers for free mulch. If they're working in your area, they'd deliver you a load, probably for free. I get tons and tons of free mulch every year. I have completely transformed my entire yard from red clay to rich black soil. And I never used a tiller. I just kept piling on the mulch. Over time, it sunk down into the clay. And as I dig, I blend it in too. I give away lots of plants locally to people who will come and dig them, but I always tell them they can have the plants but they must leave my soil. Some of them think I'm nuts, but true gardeners understand we guard our rich soil like it's gold.
Tree trimmers have to pay to dump at the landfill (where usually you can get it for free if you have a truck). So here in my town, they are quite eager to dump it on my property for free when they're out this way. I use LOTS of mulch each year, but I haven't paid for any in about 7 years. Also, I use it fresh off the truck; I don't let it sit for a year. In all these years, fresh mulch has never burned a single plant, despite the rumors.
I have 3 loads of chips delivered so far. I'd like to get more and am trying to talk to tree trimmers about getting more. The 60X40 foot area for the veggie garden I'm covering with pine chips and than I will have that plowed for next years planting. Between the plowing and adding more wood chips as I can get them, it should be good to go in the spring.
Marti! Here am I just getting acquainted with you and you're ups and leavin'. I was looking forward to many more great trades with you and feeling your presence as a special spirit occasionally. I hope that doesn't sound like "duh!!!" but think you probably know what I mean.
