So, I received in the mail, my version of porn - the Plant Delight's Nursery catalog. Drool....
I'm going to be getting a mule palm (cross between a queen and a pindo) and a heliconia that's hardy to 10 F.
Yea baby!

Plant Porn...
Wow Barb! I'm not on their mailing list, but I just checked out their catalogue online. Ofcourse, there are several plants I can't live without. ( I agree their cold hardy helliconia sounds terrific.) Thanks for sharing!
I ordered the palm and the heliconia last night.
They have open houses a few times a year, the next is in Sept I think. From what I hear, if you go, bring a certain amount of cash, but no credit card - you'; max it out!
Barb
That's so true, Barbie! I always leave my wallet/credit cards in my car when I visit. But there are 3 or 4 ferns in that danged cataloge that I abolutely must have... So he got me again!
I haven't had time to even open the catalog and in the interest of my credit rating - maybe I won't. Yeah, right........
I also got an interesting catalog of Proven WInners. They have quinces with double flowers that are 2 1/2" to 3" in diameter. Awesome colors too. Now to find a place that carries these beauties. To heck with that credit rating. LOL
His nursery is simply amazing..... :)~
I agree, I LOVE the catalog and have been to the nursery a few times. It's the best. I love that Tony is always standing at the back of the house and you can chat with him. Last time, I drug my husband along (Joe is from Raleigh) and you can always play Six Degrees of Separation with Joe and anyone in Raleigh. Sure enough, Joe and Tony went to the same high school, although Tony was in another graduating class (with Joe's brother.)
Anyways, I love the mule palm and heliconia, they were on by initial big list (which was a gazillion dollars.) I finally ordered 7 different Zephyranthes (my latest obsession), Boesenbergia longiflora (this looked waaaaay cool), Colocasia esculenta 'Lime Aide, Ficus gasparriniana var. laceratifolia and Eupatorium greggii aka Gregg's Mist Flower. When I went to the Lady Bird Johnson wildflower center a few years ago the mist flower was just covered in butterflies, it was unreal. Of course, I've killed it before, but this time will be different...
Can you believe he is charging $11 for a 3 1/2" pot of Graptopetalum (Ghost Plant)???? I must have composted about a $1000 worth of that weed.
Yea, every once in a while I think, "Really? I give that stuff away." I.e. canna "Phaison" and Formosa lily. But, he has some really cool stuff.
The hardy heliconia caught my eye.
That's how this plant genius does it! He finds stuff all over the world, brings it back, adapts it to our climate, and sells it. I never even knew there were such things as "sun loving ferns"...now I've got 6 of them. All doing well. Somewhat scary...
I really enjoy his e-newsletter, Don't remember how I got on the mailing list but it must be the website somewhere.
They came........;)
The mule palm and heliconia. Both look fabu (of course); the heliconia is about 2' tall and the palm, about 8" tall.
Between these guys arrival and the fact that we got a lot of rain (enough to almost completely refill my 300g rain barrel in one afternoon), life's pretty sweet!
Barb
300 gallons? What are you using for a rain barrel?
I envy you that heliconia, that one was on my radar.
Ardesia,
It's a culvert pipe; 3' diameter and 6' tall. It's awesome!
With it, I managed to keep many potted plants and my veggie garden happy for most of the summer. It went dry about a week ago.
Barb
Oh wow! One more thing for my probably, oughta, should have list.
