I have two turkeys that are about 3 months old. Do turkeys come home to roost like my chickens? I don't know if I should let them out of the run.
Turkey Question
Good question. We have two turkeys too a bit younger. From what I understand of turkeys the gobbler will tend to roam more looking for women (if there are none) but the female will stick closer to home. If you have a male and female they may stay put better since the male would have a female. I'm not sure yet what we have but we suspect one is a gobbler.
We let ours out to roam sometimes and right now they stay close to home and even follow us around. They do go back in their pen when they are ready.
Hope someone else with turkeys can give us more info.
I have two males.
I have to lock up my 14 every night to keep them safe. The chickens will go to bed on their own, but I have to go out there and call and toss a little feed in the pen to get the turkeys in. Now almost all go right to the pen when I say "Let's go to bed now. Night night !". It probably confuses the heck out of the neighbors.
I have 2 males and they were raised with baby chicks to teach them where to go at nite to roost..lol..they still do go to the hoophouse to roost with the chickens. They are 1 year old now..They keep an eye on things in my yard while they free range with my chickens and 1 duck...lol..
thank you all. They are in the pen with the chickens right now. I let the chickens free range each day and they don't wander too far from the coop/run. They fallow me into the run when I open the gate in the evening and I give them some food. I just fear that the turkeys won't and wonder all over the place. I guess for now I will keep them in the run until they get older. I had read on another thread that turkeys keep the hawks and snakes away.
