CLOSED: Broad-winged Hawks?

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

When I saw this mass swirling above, I was sure that they were Broad-winged Hawks. Looking at the pics though, their heads look long, so I thought I check. Broad-winged hawks migrating south?

These pics are taking a really long time to load. Is that b/c I now have more pixels? Does anyone know what size I should reduce the photos to?

Not sure what your bird's are, but I re-size or crop my picture's so that they never get above 2400x1200/etc and they load fairly fast.

trackinsand, I think you might be right. I cropped one of the photos way down and anhinga does seem like a possibility. I had no idea anhingas traveled in big flocks like that.

There were at least 100 of them. I have as many as 75 in some of my photos and I did not get a single photo with all of them in it. They were really high too. Some of them just disappeared into the clouds while I was watching.

Thanks for the tip Burd.

Here's the super cropped photo.

they flock together like that here and are usually really high. it's weird because you don't expect them to do that!

That's just amazing. I've never seen that before! Thanks!

you're welcome....and thanks to resin. i usually don't feel 100% about birds until a confirmation from someone like resin.

Yep-Anhinga. We Florida folks never see Anhinga migration here.

Anhinga species are distributed world-wide but only those populations in the higher latitudes migrate..toward the Equator in winter and away from the Equator in summer.
