Tree climber rescues tangled osprey
GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) -- A professional tree climber has managed to rescue a young osprey that got tangled in baling twine and ended up dangling from a nest 100 feet in the air in southern Oregon.
Jim and Cindy Hubbard called Wildlife Images rehabilitation center after a woman out for a walk reported the young bird was tangled and chirping madly Wednesday evening. The Hubbards have watched the birds come and go for years from a nest on their property.
The rehab center called Eric's Tree Service, which sent out Don Mattade. Aided by a spotlight, he climbed the rotting cottonwood tree and cut the twine with a tree-trimming tool. It was dark when he finally freed the bird, which was safely back in its nest on Thursday.
Mattade says he's saved cats and pet birds before - but never a large, wild bird.
Entangled osprey is rescued!
Thats good news!
What a wonderful recovery! I'm so glad that guy was able to rescue the poor thing.
Ropes, twine, fishing line, fish with hooks inside, plastic and numerous other carelessly discarded items post a thread to ospreys. Good rescue.
Always love a story with a happy ending!
