Gooch da Pooch

Lancaster, PA(Zone 6a)

Try as we would to change it, Gooch is her name.

With her history I expected we would have to spend a lot of time in rehabilitating her but I didn't think the task would be as daunting as it is. Her early years in a puppy mill plus who knows what afterwards have let her with some real scars in her psyche.

She is terrified of strangers and cowers on the floor when a friend come into the house. It only takes a few minutes and then she is her usually friendly self again. So we are working like mad to socialize her and let her know the world isn't really such a bad place. The other memento of her past mistreatment is that she has the worst case of separation anxiety I have had to deal with. I would appreciate any information you might be willing to share on getting her through this.

We have had her two weeks now and she seems to be bonding. She is starting to be territorial about her yard and that is a good sign. I think once she has accepted that this is her forever home she will be more trusting and come around to being the happy goofy girl she should be.
