Capillary Matting

Is anyone using capillary matting in their greenhouses or hoophouses? Does it work well? I've seen the ones that have to be damped with soaker hoses and others that have a hose built into a sleeve at the end. Just wondering if it's worth the investment.

Hi, Denise...I use the capillary matting in the base of a number of my growing pots for some of the more delicate or tricky perennials such as clematis. I put the cap sheet, cut a little oversized, in the base of a closed tray standard size. It does help to maintain a constant water level for the tricky cuttings to work. It's the only way I have used it...but I wouldn't call it expensive. I have enough for 15 trays and I think it cost about $12 last summer....I use agralan fibertex capillary matting if you want to run a search for it. It comes with a cover as well, but I haven't needed it....MaryAnn
