Is the stem striped dark red & green, the bloom looks like Costus pictus.

Anne, I know I sent you a Costus pictus ( Red Stemmed ) last Summer, is this the one that is blooming?

I think it is, the stems start out red at the base then turn green.

I had that planted in several places around the yard and it always bloomed sometime before Fall but then we had that bad Winter last year and we lost it all. I think it was the wet more than the cold. I sold some to a customer who is in sand and his came back, so I have it again. From now on, I will be taking cuttings of all my Costus in the Fall and Wintering them over in the hoophouse, they root real easy. I'm also going to dig up small pieces of my Curcumas and keep in small paper bags in damp peet. I lost soooo many Gingers this last Winter.
