During the hurricane we received about 6-7 inches of rain and even though we have raised planting areas, the arugula was soggy. Now the leaves look like they either have a virus or cyclamen mites (I can't find any bugs with a hand lens), the leaves are distorted and the plant suddenly wilts and dies. I can't find anything online about a virus that attacks arugula and they don't have mildew (the only other predominant disease of arugula). The back side of the leaves is bronze, like mite damage, but mites wouldn't kill suddenly, nor cause wilting. Any ideas? Some asian greens are showing similar symptoms.
I'm ripping the plants out and feeding them to the chickens, but would like to know what caused the problem.
Farmerdill, need help with arugula
I really don't know, as this is not a plant that I grow here. I do understand that it does not like hot muggy weather so it might just be the weather.
Thanks Farmerdill. I've replanted in an area that hasn't had arugula before, but will wait till it cools off and try again. Restaurant customers buy loads of the baby leaves.
