Crocus for the lawn

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

I am interested in getting 100-200 crocus bulbs mixed to plant in my lawn for the spring. Where can I get these locally in bulk or do I need to go online?

I think you'll probably get a better price online. Locally, if it's just the standard little spring crocus, then I'd check box stores like Home Depot and Fred Meyer.

We get a catalog, I think it is Schleppers, (?) that has really nice bulbs. I will post more info when I get it, so don't take me at my word yet. The spring bulb catalogs are just beginning to arrive. When I wanted crocus, I found that even the box stores were pretty expensive.

I get mine at Costco! About 50 or could be 100 for about $12. Just the run of the mill kind. They come in the stores about September.

I sent an email to Sky Nursery who told me that they get bags of about 100 in September, too. I am looking forward to yanking Dandelions with Grandpa's weeder, and dropping a crocus bulb in each hole.

I have had wonderful success with John Scheepers bulbs, and have my fall catalog. They have a wonderful crocus section.... both species and large flowered. Most of the species are 100/$12.50, 200/$22.50 and 500/$54, and the large flowered are 100/$23.50, 200/$39, and 500/$90.25.

You can find them at www.johnscheepers.com

I bought a collection of dafodills from them last year and was just stunned at the beautiful varieties that were included, and on top of that, they all bloomed for me...even the ones that I didn't get into the ground until February!

That sounds like a good deal. Sky quoted last years offer for 60 for 10.95. I will take a look. that site is going to make me a bulb fanatic. But no USDA Zones! And the price for the crocus were 100/12.50. Now if only I can find a person who can get me into Amaryllis outside.
