That is so cool! Looks like a bloom-on-a-bloom!

Dana,
Was there anything inside that protrusion?

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

it looks like a prefect adaptation for the problems besetting the brugs in areas like Panama... when you look at many of the wild grown flowers there... you see the sides torn out of the flowers.. caused by birds [ humming birds and others ] looking for the nectar.. and being unable to access it from below.. up through the long flower... so thye blast their way through the sides of the flower to get to it.. an access port there would really help the flower remain intact
is it open into the flower from inside the protrusion..

just a odd port hole as you call it

Wow, Dana other than the 'pertrusion' anomaly. The flower looks like 'Eternity' -- here is mine. This one is huge this year. In fact I thought it maybe 'Super Nova' when it turned white yesterday. Hi Gordon, Veronica and everyone.

Hi Kim, Glad to see you posting.

It's nice to 'see' you too Veronica. Here 'Eternity' was yesterday before it turned pink. Eternity is one of the reason why I love brugs so much. They can be frinicky, but the beauty is worth it!

Hi Nadine, Dana really has some good flushes of blooms on hers. It's so nice to see those many blooms at once.

Thanks :) we are just getting some rain here happy for that been so HOT sick of this summer looking forward to it cooling down and i think these plants will perform

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Yes, Dana. Brugs perform best when the weather cools down a tad. It has been so hot and dried here too. Some days I need to water the container plants twice. We all looking forward to bit cooler temp. but then Fall doesn't stay long and the growing season will wind down. :((
