WANT..four o'clocks,maybe agave/cactus, plants blooming now

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

on the plants blooming now they need to be sun loving drought tolerant beauties. and if you have agave or cactus you are going to have to sell me on them even though i am asking for them. i think they would do well for texas and look good but i prefer the lush green look instead of the "can't believe something can grow in this heat" look. if you have some good landscape pictures or can direct me i would appreciate it. names are not important. beschorneria would be good too. THEY HAVE TO BE HARDY TO ZONE 7B. i am supposed to be 8a but i would like to be sure.

i need lots of these four oclocks. if you have extra plants lmk. i want the red ones.....not the fuschia ones. yellow ones. white ones and bicolor white and yellow. or any unusual one you might have. peach? and that chartreuse one.

tell me what you like and i will give you a list as my trade list is very wrong. if you have big plants i can trade several smaller plants to make it fair. also have some roses that are badly grasshopper eaten but are named roses from chamblee's.

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

where were you earlier in the year when I was pulling out 4 o'clocks by the 5 gallon bucket fulls?.....LOL. I still have tons but couldn't promise what colors they'd be.

Here are a couple of pictures of the Agave americana that grew in my neighbor's front yard - it was 20+ years old when it bloomed and then died last fall:

Simply beautiful - both of them! How long from seed to bloom?

Mulberry, FL

3-4 yrs every one says 2 yrs or more its more

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

kay, do you have one of those agave's? two maybe. i kind of like those.

do yall know the hardiness zones on those agave?

big red.........mine are blooming now. you have none that you would know what they are? if i didn't name the color i have all i need.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Barbara, I do have pups, but they are thick and heavy - in order to get one to transplant, I would need to dig a taproot that is very thick, as in a rope - I mailed two babies to a gentleman this spring and it cost $12 and change.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

here is a link on agave americana. says it's only hardy to 8b. but this doesn't even look like the plant you have.

Hey Mamajack,

I have some yellow 4's and some white & yellow striped (Custard & Cream). Want some? I'd love to find some of the light pink and the purple (not fuschia) and some limelight. Of course you know I'm looking for hibs I don't have, like Turn of the Century. They were all gone by the time I found the co-op.

In what respects is it different?

Mulberry, FL

The agave I have 2 pups of variegata got them for a lady and she bought them of ebay I was going to get some brug cuttings in trade have the light blue too

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

that brug is so pretty. love those things.

kay.......on that thing you show that thing in the center. it looks thick and fleshy and not at all like a flower. the agave i showed had that tall white flower spike. didn't it?

butterfly chaser.............i don't have turn of the century but i want those plants you got. what else might you like? i can get you a turn of the century next year but i didn't get any extras and i lost mine a few years back so don't want to part with it.

dana.......do you know what the hardiness is?

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

and kay.......look at the green part on yours. nice and upright and neat. the picture i sent the foliage looked like it was all over the place.

Mulberry, FL

It gets in the 20's here and holds it people think fla tropical unless your in the keys or miami it gets cold here i have pic's of my fountains totally iced up

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

I don't know if the fact that the plant I posted is 20+ years old and Travis kept it trimmed makes a difference, but his neighbor is a horticulturist and that's who said it was A. a. - I don't get caught up in 'names' so I don't really know.

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

I have blooming fushia bloom Four O'Clocks that I can share.

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

and alot of starts..sorry the photo is blurry... but there was a wasp out there, and he didn't want me to stick around ~LOL~

I have two plants @ 7 inces...two plants @ 12 inches...heres the 12 inchers

Thumbnail by DIRTYGIRL71
Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

dirty girl..........what colors are the babies? don't really need the fuschia one UNLESS it is the one that almost flouresces. how do you spell that word? some of the fuschia ones are kind of a flat fuschia. but on the broken colored ones.........that fuschia looks like it has a light around the flowers as the color seems that bright.

the yellow ones are outstanding for color.

kay if you have 2 what do i have that you could possibly want? lol.

you too dana.

and kay and dana...........kay has 2. do you dana? how big are the plants? would they both fit the 15.00 flat rate box?

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Barbara, I can take pictures of the pups I have - quite a few - and you can pick the ones you want. I will dig them, weigh them and take them to the P.O. to get the cost and let you know, before I ask you to send the money. I have a neighbor that has a variegated one, half as big as mine, and he has pups - maybe he will let me have one.

Mulberry, FL

The scent at my walk way with these in the evening are just wonderful. I like the color when you have a few different colors they mix then you get the splashes

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

It's this Florida life we are forced to live that makes us look goooood!

Ocean Springs, MS

Mamajack, I would love to have some of the roses if you are interested in evergreen wisteria (millettia reticulata), octopus agave, bottlebrush tree, and firecracker plant. Also have some crocosmia bulbs (orange). Thanks, julie

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

julie most of those i know are not hardy here and i have the millettia. how big does the milletia get where you are? does it freeze to the ground down there in ocean springs? when does it bloom for you?

Ocean Springs, MS

It's blooming right now and no, it doesn't freeze to the ground. It is in my sister's yard and it covers a 6 X 6 trellis. It is beautiful. love, julie

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Froggie, your sister's is blooming NOW? Mine and my neighbor's finished blooming in May!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

when i got mine i read that they could bloom all summer. does it smell julie?

Ocean Springs, MS

I took pictures of it yesterday and it is definitely in bloom. As far as smell, I didn't notice a fragrance. thanks, julie
