Very pretty Susan.

The first year I raised the Giant Swallowtails I tried to release it and it just wouldn't fly away. I like them best of those I raise with their dorsal and ventral sides being so different.

Then the buckeye would be the next but I don't see many of them.

Thanks Frostweed :)

Sheila,

Beautiful pic!
What do you use for the cats? None went around our Rue :(
I have yet to be able to take a pic of a GST. I have only seen 2...both just fleeting seconds before they flew due noth over our fenceline in mid-May...and one each year...this past Spring and last.
I'm sure that time of the season it has no interest in nectaring, just finding a mate and mating. And all throughout the past few summers, none had stopped by in our gardens later in the season...big sad sigh.
Same thing with the Mourning Cloak...over the fenceline and not even stopping for some rotten fruit :(
There are 5 butterflies I'd love to see stop by our gardens...those 2 I mentioned, a Pipevine Swallowtail (we have virginia snakeroot), a Zebra Swallowtail (need to pray for a migrant...don't have room for a Paw Paw tree) and a Queen!

Well the pipevine and zebra at two that don't stop in my yard long enough to lay eggs. So it all evens out.
I was complaining yesterday about the citrus not having cats when I had seen plenty of eggs then dissappearing. I found a leaf-footed bug sitting on a leaf there yesterday, so that is why. However on anothe citrus the Satsuma I found three second instar cats.
Most of my GSTs up to this point have been laid on Rue. I had so many last year and was running low on rue that I had to release all of them on the one plant so the bfs would quit laying eggs. I have managed to have about three more rue out of 10 I bought this year to survive, so hopefully I will not have that problem next year.
off to do the lawn today.....have a great day everyone.
