1 new baby so far today

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I have my Araucanas sitting on a dozen Millie Fleur D'Uccle eggs. Both ladies sitting all the eggs in the same box. I saw today that a chick has hatched and Blue has left Blackie with the hatching duties. I didn't expect them to start hatching until tomorrow. hope 2 or 3 more hatch out and they are all hens lol

oh and I have a BC Marans sitting on 15 Lakenvelder eggs but not due until 16th. Hope she doesn't give up with the heat the way it has been this last week. Has to be absolutely merisrable in the nest box

Lodi, United States

I love it when chicks start hatching early...it means things went right (although if it happens too early in an incubator it can mean you goofed up).

A friend just gave me a week old Silkie/BCM cross and a day old tailless, double tufted Araucana...I am hoping for pullets too!

What will you do with all the Lakenvelders?

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

only want a couple of hens. Guess I will try to sell the others in the fall if they hatch

Me realllllyyyyyyyyyyy needs that dbl tufted Rumpless Araucana

What a PRECIOUS baby!

I like Catscan ask that same question, What will you do with the lakenvelders???I ask that as I raised some and they are very pretty, but very noisy and flighty. Those and the Minorcas are the two birds I swore I'd never have again...Hay

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I only want a couple of hens. Will sell the rest. Yes I got them only for the beautiful factor

So far only 1 more baby. Don't think any more are going to hatch from the Mille eggs. Pray they will both be hens lol. Blackie was in and out of the nest and the babies can't get out. I took them out because of the intense heat. Blackie is with them. Daddy Roo came and gave me a swift kick in the butt while I was squatted down lol

Don't get your hopes up for two girls.. looks like a pair to me. Only a guess.. need a pic when they are about 4 or 5 days old.. but so far, I'd say a pair.. They are darling!!!

Hen in front, rooster behind?

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

does it make a difference if they were born 1 full day apart?? left is second born, right is 1 day older

Richmond, TX

Doesn't the one on the left have more wing feathers? That is what made me think she is a hen.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

all I can tell you is the one on the left was born a day after the one on the right. The one on the right was born a day early at 20 days exactly from the day I put them in the nest

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

well the little one on the left died during the night. It was so small and wobbily from the start. I hand fed it last night and noticed it only had 1 eye open and was away from Mom and other chick. It did sleep under Mom though. I wonder if she squished it?? It was in the nest flattened out

Oh, so sad! I'm sorry. I'm still betting that the other is a hen.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

oops the little one on the left died. The bigger one is fine

Richmond, TX

Still sadder, I think your survivor is going to be a rooster.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

yep that would be sadder

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

new pics. Still think it will be roo??

What a little charmer! I only said rooster because it had less developed wing feathers than its sister. Total guess. You need ZZ's opinion.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

and the winner is PorkPal it is indeed a little roo. I named him Dudley.
Now how am I going to get rid of him. He is such a sweetie and when you hand raise it you can't help but become attached. I brought him in with Tiny the baby Sebright when she started looking unwell. She lasted 2 weeks inside but ended up dying. I did the best I could for her but still sad about it

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

here he is at 4 weeks & 4 days old

He is very nice and a sweet temperment too. Thank you
