Rosemary 'Roman Beauty'

Tyler, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a row of Roman Beauty Rosemary which were planted deliberately in an area that has sandy soil and a lot of sun. The bed is serviced by a sprinkler system which probably does not actually water the rosemary well because of other plants in the way. All the rosemary were planted this spring to replace another variety that didn't make it through the past winter. They have all doubled in size and were looking well untill one of them started browning out from the bottom. I cut out the brown area, but in the end the entire plant died. I see no webbing that would indicate spider mites. Now another two have just started this browning process. It usually goes one branch at a time. Does anyone have any guesses as to what may be happening. I would really hate to replace them all again.
