Not sure if mine are varigata or purpurea. Probably purpurea, since their "mamma" is hardy down into the teens. Time to clear space for the next wave of seeds in the greenhouse. I've started bonsai-ing some of these and it works great. They grow pretty fast and have great flowers (mine are purple and very large compared to the pictures) and provides great shade. Anyone interested? Will trade for anything that grows in Z9 or seeds or whatever. Hardy in cold temps (this year was crazy cold for us here in Orlando, down into low 20s, and while my garden took a beating, the tree did fine).
Bumper crop of 2-3" Orchid tree seedlings (bahunia)

HI, I would love one,but I don't have anything you are looking for.Could you look at my trade list to see if there is anything you might like. I have a really cool house plant that I got from my mom's funeral in June.It has a small start growing on the side I can offer. I'll get a picture of it and send to you.And also post to see if I can identify it. Thanks for considering trading with me. Karen

its good to discover someone else in zone 9 /orlando. I work at MJM nursery on 436 . I oversee the retail section of the nursery and tree farm. How many seedlings do you have? How large / tall?
Let's just say I don't anticipate running out before winter. When the Bahunia throws seeds in March, I get them into flats and let nature do the rest.
have you got yours in full sun? I potted up the babies I got from you and they are big enough now to plant out.

Awesome, Mjponies!
With the sun then rain then sun then rain, it's been a great year here for the Orchid Trees. When you plant them out, make sure they have plenty of room to grow. My two are probably 20'+ and once they're in the ground and more than a few inches tall they are almost impossible to transplant b/c they put down a nice thick tap root.
