Anthurium spectabile seeds...

Gainesville, FL

...my A. spectabile has decided to make seeds for the first time. Has anyone grown seeds from one before? They look like they are going to stay yellow or possibly orange instead of red, or is that incorrect? What color will they be when they are 'ready'?

To me, they look as though they are ready now! The berries look as though they have been squeezed out of the spadix and that is my signal that they are ready. If you pull on one gently and it comes right out in your hand, that will confirm that they are ready. Try it and see.

This is one I want to actually try and grow out, because its has been in very close proximity to several other large growing or unusual anthurium that have been blooming their heads off...A. concinnatum, A. faustomirandae, A. plowmanii, A. watermaliense, A. pedatoradiatum...of course its always possible it just selfed but ya never know....

Well, I tried to pull out a seed but they won;t budge, and they are still really hard. I think they need a little more time. I will have to keep an eye on them closely

In that case, they are still cooking. What are the chances of getting a few berries from you once they are ready? :-)

I'm sure we can work that out, I seem to have several, LOL
