Is this Ginger? Very fragrant.

My mom was given this "Ginger" and I was wondering if that is what it really is. It's 5+ feet tall and outrageously fragrant. I was snapping a pic of the hummingbirds but think it is good enough for you to tell. http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm34/tathib/951718e4.jpg

I do believe that is what is known as White Butterfly Ginger, but I do not think those are Hummingbirds, I think they are Moths.

Yes... hummingbird moths. I didn't know there was such a thing. My mom and I were confused because they were small and looked like bugs but had long bills... then an avid birdwatcher friend came to my rescue.

Here is a link that shows the difference. http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/1475850748026072088kVjNRs

As far as I know the most fragrant Ginger is the one your Mother haves. If you have a good size stand of them it really gets ya.

It's the most fragrant thing I've ever encountered.

Then you need some Gardenias and Plumerias and Banana Shrub and Fragrant Olive and more Gingers of course.

I love gardenias and sweet olive but find this even stronger. Never heard of banana shrub but am pretty sure implanted plumeria... Or was it freesia? Lol. I'll have to check my notes.

Yes it looks like Hedychium coronarium
