Here is the first of my flowers. Many more buds yet to open!! I'm so excited. It's just beautiful!!!!!
Perhaps I can now get a positive ID. I was told by the lady I bought it from it was Epi. Oxy. aka 'Queen of the night'
Do y'all think this is correct?
Eeeee!! It bloomed!!! It bloomed!!!
Thank you Mam. They are just soooo beautiful. Can't wait for tonight to come. I think there is one that will open tonight too.
I maybe repoting all mine this fall and there should be broken off pieces. As most of the labels have disappeared(thanks to the squirrels and other things) I will know know what there are but I will let everyone know. I have a lot of new growth.
Mine are recovering from the over heating last year that caused me to loose a lot. Still working on getting the misting system working right.
Hi tuffy09 :) Funny you posted here. I was just looking at your pic on the thread you started. Mine does have a pink/red stadum. I read somewhere that that was a sure thing to ID strictum. I checked on this after Sandy said she thought that's what it might be. I have looked at many epis and have a hard time telling them apart other than color and petal shape. What is a sure fire way ti ID my epi? BTW it's already putting out a second flush of blooms :) I love this plant!!
Tuffy09, where did you find that cage. That looks like something I need.
Homedepot It's nice the rings come apart so you don't brake your plant. It was cheap too less than $4.00. Lowes has them to for $3.24 there folded up.If your not looking for it you probably never notice them

I haven't seen those in my local HDs. I'll check on line. Thanks!
Now when you cage them you do need to pay attention that they don't mold ,mildew or get fungus from being confined.
Rarely an issue here. Haven't found anything like your cage though. Do those come in different sizes? I'm thinking about my large orchids, as well as the Epis. There are rings for orchids, but I don't know how you could remove them without causing damage to the plant. My Epis are all in hanging baskets, and stay outside year round, but they still take up alot of precious real estate, and when the winds hit, they thrash everything within their reach!
Ahhh! Thanks for the tag! That will give me a lead!
Yeah they come in two sizes.18" diameter 36"tall and a smaller one I don't know the size of it.I bought the bigger ones.
Very pretty atalanta. Such a bright pink.
Looks like an German Empress.Nice Find!! They like to be pot bound so don't transplant it or it could take another five years to bloom again.

My strictum had a number of buds on it which I anxiously awaited since it was the first time it had tried to bloom. I t is only a 2 -3 yr old plt. but has grown to about 3 ft size with many branches! However, it dropped all of its buds for some reason prior to blooming. Very upsetting. I did move it for a distance of about 6 ft. in the greenhouse which I am assuming was the reason it dropped bloom. bob):
ive got a couple of christmas cactus blooming, which is a first for me,im soooo happy
